32 farmers benefiting from the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UGIFT) Programme under Micro scale irrigation scheme have received farm inputs to boost their income generation and improve livelihood.
The farmers from the sub counties of Layima, Amuu, Guruguru and Amuru Town Council received the support from the Amuru production department today (27th July 2023).
According to the senior agricultural engineer also focal person UgIFT, Mr. Kidega Komakech, the beneficiaries are being supported because they expressed interest in cost sharing with government of Uganda to benefit from the Micro scale Irrigation program.
He adds that the farmers under the support will receive seedlings (tomatoes, cabbage & egg plants), a watering can, sprayer, fertilizer, pesticides and gumboots to boost their income generation.
Mr. Kidega says even though most of the farmers have paid up all the required 2.5 million Ugx to receive the irrigation support, others are yet to complete the payment and therefore need a boost.
Acting District production Officer, Mr. Komakech Simon assured the farmers that they will continue to receive support from the agricultural team in terms of mentorship to ensure that they do the right thing to get good quality yields.
Amuru district vice chairperson who also doubles as the secretary production, Mr. Rom Denis encouraged the farmers to use the opportunity to work hard to improve on the livelihood of their families.
