Amuru and Pabbo sub counties have been selected to benefit from the new parenting for respectability program.
The program will be implemented by ministry of gender, labour and social development in partnership with Makerere University of Health Sciences.
During an entry meeting on Tuesday, Mrs. Otto Lucy from MoLGSD said that the program was earlier piloted in Lamogi Sub County and showed positive results.
According to Mrs. Otto, the program will address among other issues; poor attachment and parental bonding, inequitable- gendered socialization, harsh parenting and spousal conflict and disrespect.
The district community development officer, Mr. Olum John Bosco appealed to the new partners to work with already existing structures and ensure that these structures are linked to government programs to ensure sustainability of the program.
Parenting for respectability is meant for all categories of caregivers, whether rich or poor, religious & cultural leaders, educated or uneducated, persons with disability and couples or singles.
Women and men under this program will attend a 16 weekly session on parenting for over a period of four months conducted for about 2 hours.
