Widows in Amuru celebrate their day in style

Widows in Amuru District on Tuesday gathered at Amuru Town Council grounds to celebrate the international widows’ day by dancing to praises and worship songs, in gratitude for God’s love and protection.
The Day was organized by Amuru District Local Government with support and funding from Redeem International, a partner that supports widows at the district.
Amuru Deputy Chief Administrative officer, Mr. Opio John Bosco who opened the function said that it is important to celebrate widows to remind them that they are not alone in their struggles.
He advised widows to put God first in everything they do and ask for his protection upon their family at all times.
Amuru Senior Community Development Officer in Amuru Town Council, Mr. Odong George William warned the widows against alcoholism and cunning men who lure them into selling off their inheritance for their own benefit.
He asked them to keep watch so that they are not deceived by such men.
Redeem Program manager, Mr. Okori Erick asked local leaders and community to alert redeem staff of any injustices against widows and orphan so that they can be supported to seek help in the right places.
Meanwhile, Amuru assistant resident district commissioner, Ms Akello Helen Nyakesu appealed to the widows to educate their children, especially the girl child so that they can be great people in the future.
